There a cheap knock of of the superlight. only narrow & usually fitted with a 145 tyre, usually bought from Tempe tyres or similar places

Correct, they do have 145's on them. Dont really care if theyre a genuine rim or not. Should look good though.

the problem with them is the offset, they end up tucked underneath the guard and dont look right.

.... which is very useful if you want to run 8.4" brakes without flares. :)

will using cooper stepped drums fix the problem and untuck them?

With the discs up front it may the only way to tell for sure is to wack them on and hope they don't rub on the inner arch at the rear.

Stepped drums give the same front track width as S discs do.
