i shook the brap out of it and it doesnt move.. but im weak as p!ss so that doesnt mean anything

its not loose wheel nuts, i make sure theyre tight after loosing a rear wheel the other day

its not a handling problem because it corners fine and doesnt lurch under braking etc

engine mounts seem to be ok, though they arent new so il probably need to replace them..

i had a lower engine steady on the race car and it was good, maybe i need one of them too

all the control arm, tie rod etch bushes are fine..

excuse my lack of knowledge but whats a cotton real bush?

Do you have Nolethane top engine steady bushes (hard plastic/rubber....generally red in colour).

Cotton reel bushes generally hold the shifter mechanism to the floor and you will also normally find them at the rear exhaust mount at the back of the rear subframe.

Use rubber (real) bushes.
They are a borstard to fit compared to nolathane or urethane but the car feels nicer and they last longer, heaps longer.

And what the other folk said, sounds like exhaust Vs subframe clunky.

Put the car on a hoist, and in gear.
Go under, grab both pot joints together and rotate them to and for.
Any clunking noises or lots of movement is cause for concern. Usually a worn diff pin and planet gears is the cause.
If the pin breaks, it can come out radially and lunch your gearcase. Not a good look.

Years ago We had a Mini Van which I used for work. When I bought a bigger van we used this Mini Van for doing pick ups and deliveries and at the same time my wife used it to do get shopping. One day she complained to me that the Van was making a clunking noise every time she put her foot on the brake pedal. So.. I took it for a drive around the block to see if I can work out what the noise was. Sure enough, put my foot on the brake and CLUNK ! did the same a couple of times and I figured it is coming from under the driver's seat. I stopped on the side of the road and lifted the seat to find a "TIN OF PEAS" rolling around and every time you break it was rolling forward and hitting that Box chassis bit across the car under the seats. That was very east yo fix.

i dont have a hoist but i put the car in gear and pushed it back and foward. the car rolls foward a fraction then grips up, i thought that was normal though, it also makes a little gear engagment sort of noise.. youve got me worried now!
