Hi,

I have a 1 1/2 SU and iwas just wondering if it was normal for the piston (i think thats the bit that im talking about) inside the carby to be low? I will take a picture and post it up soon.

When the engine isn't running/just idling the piston will be at the bottom of it's travel (basically as low as it can go). There will be a small gap to let a little air through (otherwise it won't idle).

I'll assess what you've said again once you post a picture of what you mean.

That's what it looks like to me. The piston will raise up out of the way of the inlet runner once the engine is either revved but mainly once it is revving under load.

make sure you can lift the piston with your finger before using it and make sure its not too sloppy. the big black book tells you the way to test your piston. if its jammed or difficult to move you may have a bent needle or the piston/ bore is burred.

With the dashpot piston removed (unscrew the black cap on the top of the bell housing and remove it and the rod inside) you should be able to lift the piston to the top of its stroke with absolutely no binding whatsoever, and when you drop it it should fall smoothly with a 'clink' as it hits the bridge. If it doesn't do this, you will get flat spots under acceleration.

This has nothing to do with SU's but how easy s it to install a Gemini Starter Motor? Is there lots of Mods needed?

You just need to move the bolt holes a bit and fiddle with the wiring. Only takes a short time to do.

the bolt holes just need to be elongated.

If you are planning to buy one, why not buy a new one from MG spares. The holes have been done for you, it comes with a wiring diagram and .....its new.

Only about $200 delivered from memory.
