But you're right....a lot of people only chase the cheapest price, not taking into account things like that. That's why companies like Budget Direct and Real Insurance exist. THey're cheap because their cover is cheap.

Neither Budget Direct (work for them)or Real (I checked) offer CTP insurance which is what is being discussed here, not Third party property, third party fire and theft or comprehensive.
I suggest you take care with what you write here and base your statements on hard facts when discussing companies, as you never know when one of their representatives are watching.

I'm aware of who the CTP providers are for NSW  My comment regarding those two companies were about the standards of their motor cover (not CTP), as told to me by people [previously] insured by them, and was as an aside to what I said about people chasing the cheapest price regardless of the product.

Why is it ok to talk about other companies and the quality of their products, and not insurance companies?

I know a number of people personally who have had massive problems with both of those companies at claim time.....one them even refusing to reinsure a number of people because of one at fault accident. That is a hard fact. If their representatives are concerned about what people are saying about their practices and customer service, maybe those things need to be changed?

I heard that Shannons offered Green slips but haven't been able to confirm that yet.

When i ring Shannons about 6 weeks ago they confirmed they did green slips, but couldn't even give me a quote because my car wasn't insured with Shannons :(

Put in your details & it will give you the prices of all greenslip providers.

I checked out this web site after my phone call to Shannons, cheapest was GIO, so i rang GIO to get the green slip, answered all the persons questions excactly the same as i did on the MAA web site to be told my green slip would be $200 odd dollars more than qouted javascript:emoticon(':(') on the MAA web site, when i questioned the difference i was told that it was a problem with the MAA web site that GIO know about but have no control over.

What do you drive? If you dont' put the right details in, the price will be different. If it's a ute, it will never be classed as a passenger vehicle, always goods carrying. THat's a mistake that EVERYONE seems to make because they don't look at their registration papers to see what their shape code is.

It certainly did not appear to be a comment about two different types of insurance cover.
No one said you can't discuss it. Just be clear in what you say, and always base what you say on facts, this forum can be sued by the comany or individual that feel as though it/they were slandered against by a forum member. please see the rules for the forum here noting point #4 http://www.ausmini.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=24057

There are many reasons/ways for different insurance companies to arrive at a premium as I'm sure you're very aware.

And as general advice to everyone, when shopping for insurance for whatever cover you're looking for, be it CompulsoryThird Party (CTP OR GREENSLIP), Third Party Property Only (TPPO), Third Party Fire & Theft (TPPFT) or Comprehensive, please read the PDS's readily available for each insurer or call them and ask if they will cover your specific need. This will ensure you get the cover you need, not just the cheapest price.

I thought was clear, obviously not clear enough so I have clarified that.

Great advice, and something that every person should do.

Unfortunately the MAA doesn't bother to keep their guide up to date. That is their short coming, not that of the CTP providers because the pricing is submitted to them months in advance. It is, however, written on teh website that their prices are only a guide, and that for confirmation you need to call each insurer. No one reads that bit though

My price is always about $30 cheaper than the cheapest on the MAA website!

But it could pay to look into the terms and conditions. NRMA offers at fault driver cover, does your company offer that? (most don't) This covers your own costs if you have an at fault accident.

Have you checked the fine print as to what the "at fault driver cover" actually covers? If I am not mistaken when NRMA first released this benefit, you had to as the driver lose at least one limb first in order for the benefit to apply. 8)

EDIT: clarification

I used Budget Direct a few years ago (comprehensive insurance) and had to make a claim for hail damage, they were great and didn't even list it as an at fault claim

I just got a quote from QBE, they wanted $389. So GIO is still (like last year) cheapest for me, $367.16. 8)
