I have a 9v battery but would it make a noise from that or does it really need to be 12v

I think what deg is trying to figure out is if the horn works and wants to test it on a 9 volt battery ??? I'm not sure as I have a horn I could test here that I know works but no 9 volt battery ...

Just build a battery box with 8 x 1.5v AA. 9 v wont do it

Yes but you can't help the vague questions.

No, horns require too much current, which 9 volt batteries cannot provide. Horns can use quite a bit of juice.

Use a car battery charger instead, it has 12 volts and a little extra mumbo, or do the right thing and get a multimeter, can't go wrong, they start at seven bucks these days.

could i cut the end of a 12v adapter? or do i risk getting electrocuted

only if you tape the 12v end across your exposed heart. The 240v end is a different story.

12 volt adapter what?

No you won't get electrocuted, unless you cut a 240 volt plug..but you do will ruin whatever that 12 volt adapter thing you have is. If you mean a 12 volt power supply for a phone or whatever it is, they often have a very low current capacity as well. Get the multimeter, avoid the bodgy shite.

take the horn to another car and just put the leads across the battery

Nahh , unplug the wires from their starter motor and hook them to your horn , scares the bejeeser's out of them , can be fun to watch them try and figure it out too .... Kept an Engineer at Goulburn scratching his head for an hour :lol: :lol: :lol: we didn't call him Goombah (for nothing :lol:
