Hello everyone,

I was just wondering if my clubby blinker lenses needed to be amber or not?

they are clear at the moment because they are obviously faded.

OR should I try and find some amber bulbs?

thanks everyone

I think youl find the amber part is a seperate lense that sits inside the clear ones, maybe its been removed. But id go for orange bulbs they look alot cleaner with a solid clear lense

Some law officers and inspection stations take a dim view of old faded lenses, whether they have amber bulbs or not.
You can get red or amber dye from autoBarn to recolour lenses.
Don't ask Supercrap, they won't know what you are on about (well, my local didn't).

My roundy's blinker lenses didn't come up too bad-

if you can't find them in auto parts places several hobby paint manufacturers (like tamiya) make acrylic clear paints in red and yellow which also work well for rescinting lenses .

On a similar note. My roundy has clear lenses....and the pink slip bloke questiioned them, he said they should be amber. I said that they should be clear because they also function as parking lights. He seemed to think this was a reasonable argument.

My real issue is.....the parkers stay on when the headlights are on, making it hard to see the flash of the indicators. Is this normal? Can it be changed? How?

thanks everyone.

I might try the amber paint.... since I have painted everything else on the car and since my rear lights are nice and amber... may as well match em up.

Don't use too much at once, it is very runny..
Just put light coats on until you are happy. 2 or 3 will do it.

Ensure that the globes are in with the correct filaments lighting. i.e. the dual filament globes have a 21w and a 5w filament. If the park lights are 21w you may not see the 5w flash over the top of them. The globes are meant to only fit in one way round but you can force them in backwards in some globe holders. You could also source some 21/21w globes so that the flash and the park lights are the same brightness as each other. You could try LED globes, they tend to be brighter, but you need to use a compatible flasher can because they don't draw enough current to make the old electro-mechanical ones work properly.

Alternatively, re-wire the parkers so that they are in the headlights like the UK cars had then use amber lenses. You'd probably need aftermarket headlights

Alternatively, you could wire the input to the flasher can via a relay so that when you turn the indicators on the park lights go out and stay out until the flashing finishes.

I have used the Tamiya lens paint. It works OK but fades away with the UV. Lasts a year or 2. I will be giving the Autobarn stuff a try next time.
