yummmm love some of those sugestions....anybody got pics of a orange clubbie intresting:) :)
Also how effective is matte paint?? I reckon thats kinda retro??

Its easy to put on. But a bitch to repair.

You get a Matting effect that you add to the paint and is sucks all the gloss out of it.... problem is, if you buff it for any reason it goes glossy and if you sand it, it goes white (like any paint will, but remember, you can't buff it back to normal finish)...

But, take good care of it, and it will last

gun metal grey, bright orange roof. ( kind of like the warning colours on those poison arrow frogs)

my dad old super-rod was painted hammertone blue for a while, that looked pretty cool (mini fibreglass body) also red and white for most of its life (nick named the coke can)

ok i am after a good colour for my clubbie.
so far ive been tossing up the idea of very dull metalic silver roof with a flat light blue body?? i want the car to have a retro look but still that classic taste.......anyway and ideas for a good job/colours :) what do you have??
Cheers

Clubman, hmm.
Do you really want Retro 70's?

If ya do, start by taking a look at the clothes and interior home fashions of the time 1973-1977 (I still have bad dreams more than 30 years later) and get some colour keys from what was 'IN' fashion to the general public.

Most if not all mass market cars from 1972 on were fast loosing the contrast coloured roof/body combo but kept the chrome of the previous 20 years.

Interiors were also headed towards soft tone cream/tan/brown/orange for most lighter coloured exteriors and silver/blues for the new metalic paints (silvers/light blues/and light greens). Generally speaking black cars were unheard of and usually only found on old Govt RR's or at funerals.

Red interiors were out of fashion and all black interiors were usually only found on the 'sports' variants matched with a strong paint colour (think boy-racers of the time - Chargers, Toranas, GT Falcon 500's).

They were also getting (a bit like flares on jeans) fat high body stripes around the cars 'waist'. Clubman vans were thick with wood-look 4inch wide stripes on the flanks.

If you have flared wheel arches (as most here these days seem to) they should be the same colour as the rest of the car. That way they wont look added on and will help retain the period retro look.

2 cents (from one who still remembers the 70's, and would prefer not to).
