Mark - in the other thread mentioned earlier by Flute there are some measurements given. Could you please check whether yours are the same and report back? Also, could you measure the diameter of the holes (e.g. using a drill bit - Imperial measure I'm guessing).

To clarify so I don't offend. :D

If it is a Cooper S and a new boot - fair question. Drill away and fix the badge. 8)

If it isn't a Cooper S - future buyers beware.

I was sort of hinting at point #2!

Reason I posted was I have been looking about for a Cooper S and I cannot believe the number of fakes/non originals/wannabies that are about.

We should have a contract on this forum "I promise to join the forum and not pretend my car is a Cooper S".

But only my humble and perhaps irrelevant opinion.

In fact, if you ordered a boot lid as a spare part back in the 70's did you have to specify the model it was for, or were they all the same and simply come without any badge holes?

Answering my own question, the MK II and Mini K Parts Books only show one bootlid (HYA3325) whilst listing all the boot badges separately. So it probably came with no holes.

Thanks for all with useful information....

For those of you who are concerned about me trying to pass my dirty old Group N race car as a Genuine Cooper S, Im pretty sure you"d know it aint a real one and I was just wanting to put it in a "roughly" correct position

So thanks again.

PG

You bet! It might take me a day or two since the car is not at my house.

I'm convinced my car is not a fake 'S'. I can't see someone putting in the effort to fake all of the 'S' details only to let the thing rust away. That said, the boot lid or skin could have been replaced at some point.

I will say that I've got over 350 hours of body work in the car and there were no signs of accident damage in the rear of the car. The front had been hit at some point and poorly repaired, as well as the driver's side door and lower rear quarter. Basically, the rear end and the top were straight, everything else needed attention.

I will post details when I get measurements.

Cheers!

Mark

I made a rubbing of my boot lid today.

I measured from the bottom of the hole for the handle to the center of the holes.

Top 73.20mm (measured with digital caliper)
Bottom 90cm (measured with digital caliper)

Below are scans of the rubbing. (keep in mind that this paper was on the curve of the boot lid, so you might need a flexible ruler for it to match.
