Got a complete Exhaust system today (Thanks again 69Cooper). Mocked up the head onto the block and put on the Weber Carby and Manifold with the extractors. The flanges on the inlet manifold are thinner than the extractors so I made some spacers and it all fits together nice and snug. Looks like it will sit in the engine bay without any mods which is good. New timing belt and seals for the timing kit were dropped off this evening. Off to get some valve stem seals from somewhere tomorrow then I can finish putting the thing back together and fired up..

Worked on the chook shed - finished the block foundation walls- as you may know from other posts this is Mini related as SWMBO has decreed the chook shed has to be finished before I'm allowed to work on the Mini again

Well after sorting out the drama of me being a complete nonce and losing the collets and valve spring retaining caps. I got the head on and....... The engine back in the car.

More bits to go in tomorrow... After I put the shed back together.

Drive shafts back in, why oh why didn't they make it so that the potjoint would fit through the subframe on 76 Clubmans.. Didn't have my morning coffee so I ended up trying to fit the Left hand side to the right.. Couldn't figure out why it wasn't long enough, figured it out pretty quick though, it's official I'm mentally deficient without my first coffee... Oh well live and learn. :)

Got driveline in, put new ties on the boots, since I had to pull them apart to get them in. Cleaned up the Rod change, put some grease inside it on the moving parts, sanded back and painted the gear lever, painted head. Also fitted exhaust headers and inlet manifold with Weber. Hopefully it works as I had to shim out flange on the inlet because the metal is a bit thinner than the flange on the header pipes. Colour matched the rocker cover to the bodywork. Just got to put in the Radiator, a battery and the wiring and I can start it. After that it's just all the fiddly stuff. Connect up the clutch lines. Do the interior, buy some new tyres for the Contessas and put the windows back in..

Updated engine pic in the Gallery.....

Radiator in and all plumbed up. I haven't put the heater back in yet so I have re-routed the plumbing for that. Might try and find some sort of electric solution for a demister for a bit more room up front. Cranked it over on the starter motor and got the oil flowing. Applied some brush on sound deadener to the boot area and along the underneath of the sills and under the front wheel arches.

Might be able to have her started tomorrow. :D

In a bunch of stuff I got with my mini there were some of the thick washers for the exhaust/inlet attachment and they had been ground down on one half so it was stepped. Obviously had the same issue as you. This seemed like quite an easy fix, provided the right amount of material was ground away.

Couldn't get weber and the intake manifold to seal properly, so I chopped up the original SU mainifold so it would work with the extractors and put that back on, pity though the Weber looked so much cooler.

Don't have the wiring back in the car yet so I hot wired it, after I fixed a short in the Distributor and put on a new coil I managed to get a good spark. Poured a bit of fuel down the carby, and it fired for a second. Still have to set the timing properly but it should be a goer.
