Hi everyone,

just bought a 45DCOE weber and was hoping for some assistance with starting to set it up somewhat close enough to drive with. i will end up having it tuned on a rolling road but wanted to play as much as i can to learn how it all works.

1098 bored to 1220
flat top imp pistons
731 cam timed in at 108 ATDC
10:1 compression
12G295 head
medium LCB with RC40

i have two different manifolds so will work out which one suits best once i trial fit it all up, may even buy another manifold yet

my questions are with regards to initial setup. i have been reading heaps of books and plenty on the web about setting it all up, but i am hoping everyone with experience with a weber may flick some advice my way.

when i get the carb i will asses what it has fitted and buy what i think it will need for a beginning setting. of course i will give the carb a freshen up and strip and clean etc.

i dont expect to get the setup spot on, but am optimistic in trying to tune the carb as close as i can myself. you only learn this way in my opinion

any tips or what not to do's for webers?

i have a listing from weber for a possible starting guideline.
it is listed as a 998 with mild cam, as close as i will find i think?

32mm chokes
5.0 sec venturi
1.30 main jet
F9 emulsion tube
1.65 air jet
45F9 idle jet
.50 pump jet

does this sound like the right direction? or should i start with a 34mm choke?

your advice is greatly appreciated

32 chokes might be a bit small for your engine with 10.1 CR and that cam.

maybe try some 34s

dyno test is the ony way to tell for sure. a competent weber tuner with a dyno will be well worth the money.

cheers
michael

Hi jester99
Try your 32 mm chokes first and see how it goes,it's still bigger than your inlet valve and will pass alot more air than your valve.
I saying that a good 998/1100 will pull 34 mm chokes.
50 sec venturi are too big in a 45 in any size a series motor some times they may make 2or 3 hp more at the top end but the drive ability suffers really bad on light throtle openings on a race car your lap times will suffer.
f9 emulsions will work but f16 will you more bottom end and mid range,
mains iwould try140 and 180 airs but all motors are different you will just have to fiddle, idle jets most 998 /1100 type motors like 40f9,the bleed off jet in the bottom of the weber will either be blocked off or a 50,and pump jets try 40s

ok dis-assembled the carb and have printed the jetting chart off the weber website, so have started making up the list of parts i will need to set this up to start tuning it.

these are the air bypass screws, they dont look to happy. as far as i can tell these are just screwed into the closed position. does this mean i can clean the tips up and re-use them, or should i buy new ones even though they are closed?

the carb is a 45 DCOE 152

the carb was very dirty and had quite a bit of debris in some of the small orifices. it is also jetted quite large so i am assuming it was off a hipo engine of some sort at some point.

here are the settings that it came with

36mm chokes
4.5 aux venturi's
185 main jets
180 air jets
50F9 idle jets
F16 emulsions
50 pump jet

i was going to use a manifold i had aquired recently but have decided the fit is slightly to tight for what i am after. so i will go with a redline 3005 short manifold.

i will go with GR's settings to begin with and go from there.

Jason

Most people leave those screws both closed on a racecar or a Mini.
