Geez - thems fighting words. Agree to disgree - depends on your flavour I suppose. I tend to agree with pooee(since I too have gone to the dark side with 40 DHLA). I am getting 15-20 percent more out of the car OVER the twin inch and a quarters and maintaining 40mpg!!

If you didn't get more power over 1.25's then you would want to know why. I too do not think SU's are hard to tune. I have seen experts spend days tuning Webers. so it goes both ways. BTW contrary to popular opinion Webers do go off tune due to atmospheric conditions, ask anyone who understands them and has run them at Bathurst.

I dissagree, i have a sprite with a 1275 a series motor in it, i have had a 45 weber on it, 'tuned on a dyno' however i am now running twin 1 3/4 su's on a custom mainfold.
what poeee said about more power is crap. they twin su's produced more BHP on the dyno than the 45 weber, however the weber had better all round driveabilty.

Clubmn, mate it's all good to discount poeee's statement about more BHP out of the twin 1" 3/4 SU's.....crap you would want to hope that they did deeming that the twin 1" 3/4's will flow twice as much airflow than a 45 Weber.............. (Weber 242Cfm vs Twin 1" 3/4 HS6 SU's 420Cfm  )

The usual standard i have seen, and which unfortuantly i have, is Twin 1 1/4 SU's, and whilst yes, they have stayed in tune, they are a terrible setup for my engine, as a 45 can flow better than the quarters all day, due to a better Cfm capability, but the big thing is the velocity (mixture ratio), which is far superior to the twins................. for example my car completley runs out of power by 5500 rpm........ 45 Weber will be arriving in the near future for me....... :D

I have a thirsty 1430cc. The Weber is great for delivering the amount of fuel needed. Plus the cam's power band is in a high-ish range so the extra revs love the Web.

The Webber SU argument can go on for ever, with so called experts on either side claiming outrageous power figures and the like. One resource I found however to give an unbiased reliable comparisson of the Weber and SU carbies and many other things related to the A-series engine is David Vizard's book on tuning the A-series Engine. Great book from a guy who has been modifying all aspects of the A-series for years. Plently of tests and charts and explanations in this book to do your comparissons with.

BTW: he almost always had Webers on his most powerful race engines too.

My 2c worth.

Ray.

And, he preferred Dellortos, for his fast road motors. 8) :P
