You're right, the typo is 7G2S1, should read YG2S7

I reckon a clubby with a roundy front graft

It's no way a 68!

hiya,

Yep, the rear lights could have been changed, but surely not the doors?

Definite typo!

I suspect it was once a roundy bare shell and everything clubby has gone into it. Including engine and id perhaps too....

Topical type of discussion at the moment :D

cheers! jon

Michael i reckon just swap the radiator shroud with your clubman one. Save a lot of hassels. The person doing the blueslip wont know its not the original inner guard. And it is representing the car for what it really is, an LS

It's not that easy, they are a different shape.

Once again you are correct.

Well an update is that I have removed both top panels and am now cleaning up the Clubbie panel ready to reshape and weld back into place tommorrow.

So all good.
Car keeps its original number and should therefore make the registration process easier and the Mini K has been placed into the dead Mini K register.

"They" don't care. I had a MkII S that turned into a Clubman overnight.. I think maybe because the engine may have been from a GT. Never worked out why ... the car had the same numbers for years before the computer changed its mind. Took all sorts of hassles to get the S ID re-instated.

My Mk I has a UK chassis plate ... invalid, removable (held on with phillips head screws), has a UK body number .. invalid, plate welded to removable cross member.... so they looked around and decided to settle on the the "FE" number....

Not recorded anywhere else but Rego is happy.

Just take the car in, show them what you've done and ask what they want to do. As long as they have a choice . ie there is a number attached permanently to the shell they will be happy.

Cheers, Ian

I agree.

I have registered a few minis which require blue slips to establish identity and usually I have to point out the number which should be used for the rego as they have no idea what to look for as the cars dont have a VIN like modern cars.

In recent years I've founf the blue slip inspectors in NSW want to use the numbers on the rad shroud (which are correct, for 1969> Minis) for earlier ones too (incorrect).
It pays to keep old rego papers if available.

Yes. The Blue Slip Guys are required to use an on-line system that among other things, shows them where to find things like VIN (body nos) and engine nos etc for all(?) cars and for the Mini, it only shows the radiator shroud as per late cars. It does not show the firewall location for the earlier cars.

Well I have done the deed. :)
First I reshaped the Clubman panel to the shape of a round nose.

Image

Then welded it into place

Image

Ground down the welds and finished with primer.

Probably would have been much quicker and easier prior to fitting the inner panel to the car.

So another job finished.
Whats next?
