I'm not fiddling with jets, I'm working out the best flow filter which subsequently requires changing of jetting :)

How goes the search? any reccomendations so far?

Single HIF44 on a good manifold works well, so do twins (preferable HS4s). Twins do need a bit more TLC. Having said that, I run a Dellorto 45 because I can jet it then forget it. But a single HS6 or HIF44 SU on a good manifold does give more midrange torque.

So the single hs6/hif44 will give better torque, but dellorto/webber is better for the set 'n' forgrt types? Is there a world of difference in induction noise? never been in a mini with a webber or dellorto.

yep, the webber i put on little red last year, sucked through a 20litre tank in half the time, but the enhanced power range from the 1.5 SU was awesome.. even my 1100 loved the webber better, but my pocket didn't.. hate to think how much this 1380 big bore is going to suck with the big lumpy cam, enlarged manifold, head, and even bigger dellorto than that webber...

That tells me either excessive use of the right foot (very likely) or poor tuning or both.

yes, huge difference - some people like the weber noise, I find it very tiresome. If you drive the car regularly, and happen to have a bit of a headache or had a crap day, driving home with the weber crackling away wouldn't be nice

sure, it's a mini so fanging through a roundabout will make you happier, but without the noise

The sound is the only reason I kept the dellorto! That and at 120hp end of things the engine will drain the float bowl of a single hs6 by second gear so a hs6 needs modifications to increase float bowl size, so it's not quite that simple or equal.

Personally I don't mind the sound, drove it every day almost for 2 yrs. Each to their own. I have 3 cars and the webbered one is by far most enjoyable to drive :p

I have moved to 25mm ramtubes from dellorto.co.uk and pipercross double slip on socks. It's gone from running rich on 165s with a ramflo to running lean on 180s, that's the difference between air flow (or in this case restriction). That and about 10hp... Massive difference

Wow, I know su's could suffer from surge but I didn't know that a mini engine could drain the float bowl of one though.
Might have to get Lockie91 to take me for a run once Bluey is up and going again.

Well thats something to keep in mind. All these little bits of stray/lost hp add up.

What sort of L/100km do you big bore guys get? and what type of driving do you do to get it

Mine is pretty good economy, I think... when I'm driving it.
Fuel level goes down more when it's parked in the garage for a week, this 98 octane stuff they used to call `petrol' has so much thinners etc in now, it evaporates while you watch it.

I get about 100 miles on about 20-22L of fuel, converted that's what around 13L per 100kms? not bad all things considered, lots of short, high revving trips and maybe evaporation too

GR's 1400 which is running massive HP is running a modified HS6 as per what I describe, it's almost 2 HS6's welded together or something like that.

Unless you are going to build a weber box like I have in the firewall you won't have many options... stub stacks and ramflo and short Redline manifold...
