Well I actually drove my mini today :) That said - the new gearbox on its way could not come sooner!!!

Went to Clark Rubber to get some EPDM Rubber Extrusion Adhesive for a new boot seal which I will put in tomorrow.

Also went to The Paint Place at Burpengary (QLD) to have some aerosol's prepared so I can paint my new flares (they are really good there...especially if you have paint codes). They're only Innocenti flares, but good enough until the car comes off the road for a body resto.

Came home and hung up the flares ready for primer and primed them. Tonight - wet sanding, tomorrow colour.

Started stripping down a pair of Cooper S brakes that haven't seen use since around 1984. Rotors are scored but wondering what to do about flanges etc. I assume the brakepads would be asbestos?

Fitted new rubber diaphragm to my drivers seat... might get the energy to do passengers later today.

Was shocked at the condition of the bolts, (the ones holding seat to pivot), they had virtually no thread left, and were wearing down in section.
Maybe everyone should check the condition of theirs, hate to see an accident happen because a seat mount lets go!

Fitted a new head unit to Sonic. For those in the know it's a Pioneer DEH-4250-SD does all the old stuff my old head unit did but this has a SD memory card slot, i pod and USB ports and cost less than 1/3 the price of the old one :D

Bought new seat diaphrams, cut out new door cards from 3mm ply, then took all of them as well as the front and rear seats to the trimmer.
He said that they will be ready in two days, but I told him he has up to a month, im in no rush.

Today I:

- Installed some new tail-light lenses
- Installed a new boot seal/rubber
- Pulled out the dash and installed new globes (I now have dash lights!!)
- Carefully pulled apart each of the gauges and cleaned them
- Put everything back together and properly mounted the 3 gauge cluster (previously just sitting there)
- Found out the paint I bought for the flares yesterday is a bit too orangey for the body :(
- Placed an order with MiniSpares :)

Boy, I love being on holidays.

Today I:

- started to wire wheel the boot floor as it was looking a bit shabby.
- Noticed that the bottom of the battery box was looking a little rusty. Upon further inspection, the bottom had rusted out at some point and instead of cutting out the rust and replacing it someone has just put a new panel in from underneath and bogged up the inside. So I carefully removed the rusty material leaving behind the good metal underneath.

I need to get a new wire wheel tomorrow and I will finish off the entire boot floor, prep and paint.

Today we bought some 'Morris' for my Mini and it had its oil change. Anyone else use Morris oil? A local auto elec stocks it (we've used it previously) It's from the UK.

Dad asked if he had any promotional stuff (stickers etc.) as it's Morris after all  He came back with this - we got it home in the Mini!

The oil is now in the Mini - the 500 mile 'service' done.

Evan.

stayed up last night and worked through the night on the van..

doing some maintenance for piece of mind for my SA trip coming back up soon, and to check the insides of the engine to see what they are like..

pulled the head off, and stripped it of valves, rockers etc.. ready for a good clean up from carbon and face lift of new paint, plus new valve stem seals and inspection of valves and seats.. not to meantion a look at the bores (were really good actually), & a better headgasket

Pulled the brake and clutch master cylinder off and pipe work ready for some new ones, and to allow the spray painting of the in desperate need of firewall face lift :)

Pulled the raditor out for a clean and inspection, old water pump off ready for a new high flow one, and old single timing chain off ready for the new double row one to go on once I get some sleep now.. (I WISH!!!,, soon off to work for the afternoon, hmm dont start till 4pm so maybe can get an hr of sleep in if im lucky..)

Old cast manifold off and ready for the new LCB extractors :P much much bigger, and oh maybe a different head will go on with port and polish work thats been done to it, and bigger valves instead of this one it came off, not sure yet...

Front bumper also came off ready to fit the better looking one I have now...

old steering rack is out ready for the new reco'd one to go in... front cones out, ready for the hi lows to go in instead... ummm what else did i do last night.... pulled out the wet carpet inside and pulled the seats out, to let the thing dry inside as it was getting mouldy rusting my floors... Will just be putting down matts this time around, not full carpet... that way it can air...

hmmmm oh and pulled the pooped clutch slave off, ready for the new one and its braided hose... plus tried to get the front brake hoses off ready for them as well,, however can't crack the thread yet.. rusted in... :(

Then off to the rear of the car for hi lows, brake hose replacements, brake shoes, oh and the brake shoes at the front will also be replaced.. then I'll start from sratch and begin to put all the new stuff in once I get the old crap out :P

arhhh i think that was one productive night myself  8)

Mini - block fully stripped & cleaned out, now has new welch plugs and waiting oil-gallery plugs. crank will be measured up next.

1100 - had catastrophic failure of one of the passenger side rubber-uni U-bolts. On closer inspection both sides had been over-tightened to buggery...

cheers

Jacob

Spent hours at my local bearing shop and on the web looking for BTA662 bearings (Oz Mini, Sprite & Morris 1100 steering rack pinion ones).
Nobody seems to have them.. here or in UK. Those that list em have no stock. :x

Mate, you could have saved yourself those hours and just asked me. I scowered the world for them a couple of months ago. I came up 6 then (which got me out of gaol  ), although, thankfuly, they don't appear to be NLA, just 'out of stock'.

Everybody here has em on order from UK but they are not forthcoming... and it's been a while.
Maybe RHP/NSK don't care, they're not a volume item now.

I've still got 1 left....
