There seems to be a trend at the moment of selling or wrecking cars that wont go or are defect.
JEEZ i would have sold some cars over the years.

tried it simon
it kind of made a popping noise a couple of times from the exhaust manifold (no exhaust yet) before the starter motor stopped.

By the way this is all by spraying aerostart into it, i think the carby isnt set up right (or is rooted)

Well sounds like you're getting closer - retard the ignition more (turn the dissy away from the oil filter) & try again.

If you're worried about fuelling, Morris gave you a clue, after lots of cranking and no running the plugs should be getting wet from all the fuel. If they're dry, more fuel is needed! If the choke is hooked up, try with it on full.

Are the rocker clearances ok? If they're too tight it could explain low cyl pressures...

Cheers

Jacob

i have well and truly ****ed it now. i was trying to turn the dizzy around the other way and it wouldnt go on. I couldnt work out why. I took off the metal plate that goes between the dizzy and the block to have a look and the part inside the engine where the dizzy slides into... has fallen into the engine somewhere.

This isn't like a normal car, you can't just take the sump off -- that's where the gearbox lives ;) It's an engine-out job, I'm afraid...
