The pistons must have a considerable dish in them if the high compression motor was 8.6 to 1. What was the Low comp ? 5 to 1!

There was no low compression option.

8.8:1? I think (I've never heard of 8.6) was the low compression 1275 motor. Dunno why they stamped H on these blocks. (Cooper S was the high one back then)
1100S goes lots better with a set of 9.75s in there.

This seems and oddity, all the literature (& I mean ALL) has the 1100S at 8.6:1, 63hp & 71lb/ft.

All the pommy non S motors seemed to get 8.8:1, maybe the Oz ones got local pistons or something?

cheers

Jacob

Radiator wil fit into a clubman.

A mate used to run one his GT and it stayed cool throughout summer nomatter how he drove. He said the bottom mount was awesome because it was just one bolt that was easy to get to and the whole radiator came right out

You have to realise that each country has different petrol so they may have needed to play with the compression to suit what is available.

The factory made the motors to suit what the market wanted, the Morris 1100 had 50 BHP and they wanted to give it a boost with the 1100S.
So 63 BHP was a big increase over what was the normal power for a car that size.
They probably didn't need to run the compression any higher to sell all the cars that they could make at the time.

Well my 1100S motor runs 10.5 now :P

My Leyland Workshop Manual in the UK section, puts the 1100s Engine at compression ratios of 8:1, 8.8:1 & 9.75:1 however the Australian Section puts it at 8.6:1. I would suggest the latter is a typo, as there are no factory parts listed in either the UK or Ozzy lists that could give an 8.6:1 compression ratio. Likewise, there are no listings for parts to give 8:1 CR either

It also lists (in the UK Section) HC Engines having 8.8 or 9.75:1 ratios (go figure) and the LC is the 8:1

I have 8.6:1 in a couple of different BMC books, so if it was a typo it was done in 67, 68 and 77 by three different printers.

No, they fit right in - Ms Plum has the full 110S setup, no mods to the bonnet or catch at all

Nope, std bonnet as well. Most Nb cars use the bigger M1100 radiator, no need to modify the bonnet, it just fits.
