It might also be a problem with your choke. Make sure it's not stuck open. The first stage of an SU choke is a fast idle, the second lowers the jet to richen the mixture. I had a problem with the jet staying open even with the choke in all the way.

Reach under the carby and give the jet (which sits just below the adjusting nut) a push up. It shouldn't move, but if it's stuck open you should be able to move it up a little.

I'm thinking Choke also. Is it connected and or do you have it spung closed (choked)

so it was raining while you you were driving or just now ?

go back to this question..... take the distributor cap off and check for water

When I was running a pulsar distributor, it'd drive OK in the rain as the water would run down the shaft and into the base, then when I parked it the distributor would heat up, the water would evaporate and then condense in the cap and then it wouldn't start....

I check the timing by ear (once its running of course), just a tube from the air intake to my ear, and I do it like that, unconventional maybe, but it works fantastic for me.

Cheers, Sam
