From your experiences which suspension should I go for? Cost and road performance are my criteria.
Option 1 (Coils lowered) 3%  3%  [ 1 ]
Option 2 (Coils standard) 0%  0%  [ 0 ]
Option 3 (rubber, hi lows conversion) 35%  35%  [ 11 ]
Option 4 (Hydrolastic) 61%  61%  [ 19 ]

If I remember tomorrow I will get it out of the garage and take a picture for people (I'm sure there would be those that wouldn't believe me). No trickery either, standard length rods, standard bags all 'round, standard 44 year old rear helper springs

amazing isn't it - use it the way it was designed and it works! A set of longer bottom arms doesn't go astray though

I've always kept mine at standard height, rides better than the Prelude I've been driving the last couple of months

1018cc, would you mind taking a measurement from the centre of the wheel to the bottom of the flare? I think this is where they used to measure from, ( as per the workshop manual ,someone please correct me if i'm wrong).without going and digging out a book, the standard height is about 13.1/4', is this correct,
Just measured mine (hydro ) and it sits at 11' .

Before someone else picks you up on it,
13 1/4' is a pretty huge gap :P

13 1/4" is more like it ;)

With a Mini there is not a lot of room for suspension travel. If the car is sitting 2" low it will already be on the bump rubbers and the suspension will not be working.
They really need some suspension travel to work properly.

If you are going to ride on the bump rubbers you may as well not run springs at all.

I see exactly what your saying Morris, and i have been going to have a good look at my Hydro for a while now, as it is a tad down on the right hand side, just gotta get off my butt and do something about it.
And on the subject of Hydro, i have since found a bloke, that lives very, very close to me that tells me he has 2 genuine hydro pumps, i'm yet to see them , but i'm on his case let me tell you.
As for the fluid, ( now i know this has probably been covered numerous times before), people have said to use Glycol and de-mineralised water, so to get this correct, do they mean straight Glycol ,or radiator inhibitor?, or has sombody else used something else, if so what would people recommend?

I use premixed coolant.

A factory hydro pump is a great thing but a home made one works just as well.

Out of curiosity I just measured mine. 12" right, 12 1/2" left. Curiously though, the front is level - 10 3/4" both sides. I s'pose I should really roll it out onto level ground to check it properly. There's a very slight slope across where it's currently parked which could upset the balance a tad. :P

I use straight antifreeze (castrol something-or-other that's 98% glycol)

I use 50/50 Ethylene glycol concentrate (Nulon) and distilled water.
This is pretty much the spec for Penrite's hydro fluid when they sold it here.
