Insurance yes, but my excess for my age is $700 with Shannons.. so why bother is my question? Plus I don't exactly have that money available to me for this sort of sh*t fight...

Dude age excess only applies if the car was being driven by someone under the age for it to kick in. Standard excess applies in this situation as the car was not being driven at the time of the incident.

i wondered about this... my parents and I came to the assumption that becuase its insured under my name, and my age, that it wouldn't matter... the owner is still under 25,, so that it was the same?

Not sure what the standard is, but I gather it would be around the 400-500 mark i think... not sure if it would still be worth it or not??

So Sorry to see what has happened! :(

When my mini was stolen, I only paid the standard excess ($350 at the time I think) and I am under 25 and with Shannons, hope that helps.

All the best,

Gemma

See if you can request CCTV info if there is one about. Could help you in the long run and hopefully catch the pricks in the act.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for all the support. Today was pretty grim to wake up to go and look at the damage in better daylight today and sunny (ish) weather.

CPOCSM: No CCTV camera's where it was mate. Just a normal suburban street.

clovus: I'll send you a PM in a moment

Got into my policy today, and well for Bluey the basic excess is only $300, but for Gumby its $450. I'm told this is because Bluey has been on the policy for some time now, and so it stays the same until next yr, which will go to the $450.

So I don't know about you guys but does anyone think its really worth forking for the $450 for the damage I have? I then will loose my no claim discount that I've had for years and years now,. :(

I had to drive to the doctors today in him and well I wasn't exactly happy. Brakes have pooped themselves. They still work (probably better than a lot of mini's still out there) but I always like the "hard pedal" with very little travel for braking. Before I went away on my trip, all hoses were replaced with braided lines, front and rear, new wheel cylinders front and rear, new shoes front and rear, and a few springs, the new yellow type master cylinder, and new clevis pins at the pedals.

So braking was great, could stop it on its nose basically. However this morning, no pressure at all. Goes straight to the floor... I topped up the fluid (half full it was) and pumped, and I got good brakes again. However it got worse, pedal now coming home just will continue to the floor, and only just before the floor will it engage good brakes.. I don't partically like this as you can imagine.. It's still safe to drive, I just have to remember by pedals different.

But my question to you is, why the heck has the shunt in the back caused this? Every things new? Plus no damage in brake areas? Can't get under the back yet, but got the front up and its fine, no leaks anywhere... so this is very upsetting.. stress and time I don't need.. I spent so long over my Christmas break getting my brakes 100% perfect and now its stuffed again because of this... Anyone got ideas as to why this is happening? It seems to me as if theres something in the system that's been dislodged from the impact and has got in the rubber seals? But I can't see how this is "likely"

What the hell do you do to your minis to attract so much bad luck!??!

Surely it will end soon Lockie. It can't go on for too much longer!?!

I guess I drive them everyday Damian. I expose them to these wankers out on the road, every single day of the year basically. I'm going to get a sticker made up for the rear of my mini's something along the lines of "IF YOU CAN READ THIS, BACK OFF OR YOU WILL PAY!!" If anyone has good idea's for stickers please share, and if its X rated, put them on my FB wall won't you? Not here

Hey Lockie,

Damn you're having some luck, did you run over a leprechaun or something?

I hope you sort it sooner rather than later. I have a speedo cable for a Morris 1100 which I'm happy to post up to you, not sure if it will suit you mini though, but if you want to try it its yours.

Re your brakes, has something gone amiss in the rear brakes? Presumably the handbrake was on when you were hit, maybe it has bent an adjuster or something?

Good luck with it.

Cheers
Madmorrie

Hey Madmorrie,

Thanks so much for the offer. I'll see if I can enquire weather this will fit mine and get back to you. Mines a clip on speedo cable. I have a spare screw on, but not a spare clip on :( :(

Re the brakes somethings obviously gone in the back.. I just can't see what would bend enough to cause this.. but maybe your right, as the hand brake was on at the time..

Thats terrible mate.
If you end up going down the insurance route mate, you can bring it into my shop in The Valley if you want. I'll take good care of it. :D

For only a $450 excess, i'd definately go for the insurance.
Thats what you pay it for.
It'd be way more than that if you wanted to do it without insurance, and then atleast the repair has warranty if something go's wrong with it down the track. 8)

Being that you weren't in the car at the time, nor around the car, are you not able to claim without excess? Your not at fault, so shannons would pay for the repair without excess. You only pay when it is your fault. Am I missing something? I have had 3 Claims on various cars, all not at fault and all were repaired without excess or loss of no claim.
I'd be calling Shannons and talking to them.

Wow lockie you just can't seem to win can you? Sorry to see yet another major problem occur.

As for the excess, wether you need to pay it or not i would definetely be using the insurance to repair it. Just from those photos you put up i reakon repair costs are going to be a lot more then $700.

If you need to reshell the back half, i know where there's a decent one ;)

In all seriousness though, i'd do the lot through insurance, much cheaper that way.
But get onto it quickly.
