Work on the MGB moves along. Replaced the castle rail on the LH side and related membrane and floor/sill repair with new steel. After sound deadening removed, floors acid treated, etch primer and seam seal. Also etch primed and seam sealed the engine bay after acid wash. Next fresh paint in the engine bay and reassembly can follow.

Fixed my electrical fault from yesterday,
Cleaned up the chome to a nice shine,
Took the little bugger for a spin...

Might take him out again later, beautiful Melbourne Day!

Not is very mini friendly day on Sydney, hissing down with rain.
Doing some more work on the project's engine and gearbox. If it stops raining I can paint the engine

Over the last few days..

Drove it to Wagga for the moke muster, ran fine, pulled strongly, didn't overheat and only blew a tire because a 4WD threw some crap at the side of my car which tore through the tyre..
Got shunned by 9/10 mokers there for bringing a mini because "Mokes aren't mini's"
Was requested to leave my car out of the parade by the fuzz, courtesy of a certain member on ausmini.
Drove it home again, hitch free this time. Until my spare tire exploded spectacularly 50km out of sydney. Quickly (much quicker than last time) replaced it with the other spare and continued on home.

A prediction for tomorrow's 'what did I do on my mini':

Unpacked all the camping gear, thought about washing the dirt off it from Wagga, but didn't.

Masked up the engine so it is ready to paint tommorrow.
Pulled the steering rack apart. Cam gears type, all nice and tight.
It has been reco-ed in the past but due to both boots being torn it had no oil inside.
Now need a repair kit and I can fix. :)

Fitted a new idler gear bearing into the primary gear cover and bolted the cover onto the engine
Lapped the flywheel onto the crankshaft and fitted the flywheel
Tried to torque up the flywheel nut and found the ring gear is slipping on the flywheel
Bugger!
Now I need to find someone to "weld"? The ring gear
OR maybe fit a new ring gear?

Unless you have an aftermarket steel flywheel, DO NOT weld the ring gear on!
Get a new ring gear and shrink fit it on as original.
Stock Mini flywheels are all grey cast iron- arc welding the ring gear to it is an invitation to crack.
Minimatic ring gears were welded on- but their torque converter housing is steel, not iron.

Thanks Doc, I was going to seek mini persons assistance tomorrow and would hope they express the same warning :?
Just annoying when I think I will have 10 steps forward in my engine rebuild I get hit in the face with another issue
Maybe it's revenge of the clubbie
