yeh im not a fan of the pulsar dizzys, they are 2 bulky, plus the honda dizzy's curve is very close to that of the cooper 'S' :D it also looks like a lucas dizzy , unlike the pulsar 1

I do own an S dizzy, but don't use it- its advance curve is a POS for a well modified motor, IMO. You want advance all over with by 4500, tops. IMO... 8)

The pulsar dizzy, (hitachi) is less bulky than the original Lucas. The advantage that it has over the Honda dizzy is that all the workings are internal. There is no seperate igniter box etc.

The advance curve is similar to the cooper s as well. You do not have to shorten the body, cut the shaft etc. Just a quick cut with a hacsaw, a bit of filing, or grinding where the original mount was, and change the drive dog. It really is that easy. Takes about 30 minutes.

the big plus is it only cost me $40 from pick and payless. That was for the dizzy, cap, rotor, coil and leads. Can't go past that. For more info see Marcel Chichaks' TDC web site.

Look in the Tech section. It gives a step by step report on modification, and the dizzy serial numbers you need.

There are thousands of them at the wreckers. And they work. Have done two conversions already.

Bob, This mod is for the Canadian dizzies, and as far as I know, the Aussie dizzies curve is too aggresive for the A series motors, even though the numbers are the same as the Canadian dizzies. (something to do with the different fuels)

I may be wrong....., but this information was from a fairly reliable source 8)

Are you getting them recurved :?:

The dizzy serial number I usde was the D4R85. It stands to reason that being an Australian version it should not be set up to the Canadian emission specs. The serial numbers in Marcels web site can't be found in an Australian wreckers.

I checked the curve with a timing light and dwell tach, an although not exactly spot on it is very close. When I have the time I will get it on a dizzy scope and tune it right in, but for now it works like a dream.

I've been running one of the Pulsar dizzys in my van for over two years! It's been 100% reliable and NEVER cuts out from wet ignition, no matter how hard I try!

A lot cheaper than a Petronix kit, and if the module dies you can get another one easily.

Just did another one for the Moke as well. 8)

I just did the first of 4 Pulsar dizzys we got last weekend. I can't believe how simple this mod is! Even the shaft hole for the Mini drive dog is in the right place, just needs drilling out for the Mini pin....

The body is the right size, and length, just needs a little filing to fit in the Mini's dizzy clamp.

Gotta get some more Mini drive dogs off kazjim tomorrow so I can do the others...

D4R85 is N12 Pulsar Manual
D4R83 is N12 Auto.

Casing, dizzy cap etc are identical.

I wonder how different the dizzy curves are?
