 Post subject: bent front subframe

my front subframe is bent and i was wondering what i should do to get it back straight, or if i should just find a bare one and transfer all the bits over,

If it's not too out of square (measure diagonally from the tower down to the opposite corner, and again on the other side, the measurements should form a cross across the subby, measurements should match if it's square) I would just hang onto it.

If you want to straighten it out, i'd get your biggest shifter, and lever the metal back down into shape.

I had to modify my subframe in a similar fashion to the fit the twinky into the moke.

If it's quite far out of square, just get a new one
People tend to offload them for free quite often

For that kind of a bend, I'd knock it back out, should be OK.

If say the subframe was twisted, I scrap it and fit another. They are just too damn tuff to un-twist.

alright, would the measurements of what is square be in the repair manual?

No they won't be

But if the two measurements you take, are the same then the subframe is square

if they are one or two cm different, it should still be okay

+1 just looked and then thought I would post my number of posts!

Seriously though, I would replace it rather that repair it, as it may end up straight, it will still look messy and point to a repair.

I have a spare frame if you want it. has the other bits on it as well(trumpets, radius arms, tie bars etc...)

Only problem it is in the ACT...

i have found a bare subframe, i need to replace one guard and align the other one and also replace the front apron, so in order to align the panels should i take all the bits off my subframe and put it on the other one, or could i get away with putting the bare subframe on the car and letting it sit on the ground?[/img]
