Hey Morris, one was and one wasn't, i know what I will be putting back in, and it won't be a split pin lol

Like I said, an R-clip can catch the edge of the hole and it knocks the clip out and then the clevis pin falls out and you have no brakes. It has happened a few times to people on this forum.

I have no problem removing a split pin. What is the trouble? Give it a squirt, bend the ears and pull it out. Where is the drama?

It is better than crashing a car with no brakes.

First I've heard of this - how common is it? - thought the thing to do was use an R clip

I've read posts on here before where R clips have come out with disastrous results. I use split pins, but don't bend them out all the way like some folks do.

Stood around, watched, and occasionally held something steady while Adam did the above. I left the workshop dirty, so it's kosher.

Should have used an R clip. They catch the edge of the hole and fall out on their own which saves a lot of trouble.

A split pin is the correct thing to use.

Nothing wrong with an R clip, just use a suitably sized one with a washer and you will have no trouble.

Went to post office and collected a ported 12g940 head that i purchased from ebay, then proceeded to strip head to inspect condition.
Very happy with result. :D

I gave the Mini its annual grease job ready for the Rylstone run, and successfully swapped out the worn drivers side door latch for a much better one. 8)

[edit] `twas the latch I did, not the `lock'

[edit 2]
I pumped the hydro a little higher, now ~3 fingers at front. Man this is easier than playing with those damned HiLos... 8)

Will keep that in mind, also what do you think about using a cable tie to lock the open side down? Good idea or just stupid?

Welllllll, for the first time in over 10 years today, i saw ALL of my lights WORKING  :D :D !! Every single freaking one of 'em  ! The Husband and friends spent most of the day braining over the wiring mess that was under there, and got the whole lot sorted!! Was pretty exciting stuff !! (only drama being the wiper motor----it might be a dud me thinks :( !).

Really hoping to get her started tomorrow :D :D :D !!!
