Morrie!! What does that mean? It's perfectly quiet with the motor off.

It eliminates a lot of mechanical possibilities like the split pin on the clutch master catching the edge of the hole in the firewall!

How fortuitous...

Mine has rattled for 30 odd years - until I met the guy with the largest collection of idler gear spacers this side of Jupiter. He can 'fes up himself.

The noise won't do any harm - in the short term... but it is VERY annoying. And it can be fixed.

Cheers, Ian

Sorry Morrie, I thought you were having a lend of me. No, the noise is definitely coming from around the clutch end of the motor, when it is running. And it seems to be louder when the motor is hotter.

Was that me? :P
I do have a couple of hundred idler thrust washers (all Mini Suzuki's old stock) however most are ~.133" because that's what most Minis here came with.

If the housing is worn so the idler endfloat is excessive, these days I mill the gasket flange of the housing then use these stock size washers.
Morris 1100's Mini K box needed .024" off it.

I don't think so. The main idea of using water is in case there are initial leaks.
If it's not leaking now I'd just retighten the head, and carry on.

Thanks drmini any thoughts on the "clack clack"noise that goes when you push the clutch in!!

yeah it's 90% bound to be primary gear rattle. Won't hurt it...
Caused by- slow idle, light flywheel, big cam, too much endfloat on primary gear, gear wear, etc.

Thanks Kev for the diagnosis. I was hoping it wasn't the new motor.

Can you tell me if plumbing a PCV into the alloy cover and running it into only one side of the webber manifold going to cause any problems? Or should I just throw the ole tin lid back on?

3. With the engine at running temp and sitting there idling, there is a slight "clack clack'' noise coming from the engine area. When you push the clutch pedal in it completely goes. What could that be????

This is a normal idler sound on a hot 1275

Leave the chrome rocker cover , no need to drill holes in it, you bought it to put some bling in the bay no harm in that , the two breathers you need is this one

http://www.minimania.com/web/Item/U%2F1 ... Detail.cfm

and one of these

http://www.minimania.com/web/Item/C-2A265/InvDetail.cfm

they are only a suggestion if you can find two breathers ( flywheel housing and crankcase ) in Oz it would be better , give Mini King a ring John should be able to sort you out with what you need (02) 4648 1233

Some people use small catch cans , some people run them to a filter , some people just use a longer hose to clear the engine , the most important thing in your case with a clean engine bay is to make it look neat and tidy

.
