The polisher I used when working for Novus was water cooled, so no problems with toughen glass. If you can feel the scratch with your fingernail, its probably too deep to polish out without causing distortion in the glass.

I just raced out to try the fingernail test. It feels more like a rough spot so hopefully not too deep. Novus quoted $235 fitted for new 'screens which I didn't think was too bad but I'd like to try polishing it first just to see.

I've used 1/2 a bottle of Autoglym glass polish but it's taking forever. :(
My screen was in an 850 before so the marks aren't even aligned with my wipers.

Just a heads up the autoglym glass polish isnt a polish, Its got no abrasives in it what so ever none of the autoglym range you can buy of the shelf does in fact.

Read the fine print, polish is just a name for good cleaner. Its not going to remove even the smallest scratches.

If insured, your company may replace windscreen free of charge without loss of NCD.
Shannons do.

Yeah, but this opens another can of worms- many of the new windscreens (from China?) now don't fit, or they have a tint band that's comes nearly 1/2 way down the damned screen.
Hence why I bought a new rubber, then fitted a s/h screen.

But if Shannons fits a new screen and stuffs it up it is their problem.

I have used this kit before on an old merc windscreen and got good results within 15 minutes - enough to reduce the visibility of the scratch so that it doesn't stand out as much. I probably could have got it better if I was patient and spent another 1/2 hour gently polishing.

Make sure you wear a mechanics suit or crappy shirt and do the polishing on the lawn though, being water based it doesn't damage anything but the paste goes everywhere!
