Any ideas what could cause this?

I am running a new 3 gauge cluster and have run a new wire to the -ve of the coil. Works fine till 2500 and then wont go any higher. The motor is definitely revving past 2500, just not the tacho. I noticed this on a previous temporary tacho i had but thought it was a dodgy tacho. Now im stumped.

Im running a bosch gt40t coil if that helps at all

Look at your points and / or condensor in the dissy.

Thanks for the advice. Checking the points is out of my league of expertise unfortunately. I did have them replaced when I got my car registered a month go though. Hadnt had a tacho in the car before that time so dont know if the issue existed beforehand.

Ill keep trying a few things or else have to get my mechanic to have a look next time

go for a damn good fang on a really rough rally road,,, full of big bumps & jumps & go really really fast so the whole car gets banged & bumped around really hard

that`ll fix it

:-)

& you think i`m kidding ???

Any chance it could be my coil? I have a transformer type GT40 and with my previous tacho the needle was jumping all over the place which I assume means the voltage was all over the place. Can the internal resistor conk out causing the voltage to jump up and down.

Thinking I might buy an oil filled GT40 and see if that helps first.

Well its been the same issue with 2 different tacho's now so Im confident its not the actual tacho but an issue in my electronics somewhere.

Its an odd issue but Ill try a few things and see where I get

If it is an aftermaket gauge...it will have a "4..6..8" switch on the back.

We had one once that had the 4..6..8 switch wired in reverse.

Sounds as though it it registering for a 6 or 8 Cylinder...check the switch .

OK well I will get my mechanic to have a look next year on its next visit. I wouldnt know what to look for.

Probably worth just spending the money on electronic dizzy conversion anyway
