Removed the rear brake drums and then the wheel cylinders on the Cooper S as they have started to corrode :( :(
Have to order some new .625 cylinders tomorrow.
One of the problems of only using the car 2 or 3 times a year...

Went outside to find some knob had given the side mirror a massive whack so when I tried to adjust it the whole thing just fell apart, had to patch the lot together with elastoplast from my training bag so I could drive to training!

No excuse not to fit the new pair of mirrors I bought months ago now....

Replaced the bottom radiator hose and took it for a preliminary test drive.

Gradually getting bits back together, last two nights i managed the following:
1) hooked up the rods to the gearbox, what a pain this was. Should have been a easy job but, the bush thing connecting the stabiliser rod to the engine/diff end was cactus and it was impossible to get the outer metal bit out while in the car, so i bodged it up until i get a new one and have the engine out of the car again (will be before i drive/register it).
2) Bolted most of the bits back on the engine, generator/starter/carbie etc..
3) Went to connect accel cable, but couldn’t find it anywhere, spent an 45min searching but couldn’t find it, must have been cactus and chucked it, hmm now need to buy another.

Next steps left before i can kick it in the guts for the first time in years:
1) New accel cable
2) New fuel
3) New oil
4) Charge battery and put back in
5) Connect cables from battery
Questions
1)Where should the cable from the floor starter button through to the starter? (under, around, through subframe?)
2) Anything i should do prior to starting a engine not started for ages?

Cheers

Stripped right side suspension. Bought all new adjustable geometry/ bumpstops and shocks all round.

Took out my steering rack (some F**Kwit had welded the new floors over the subframe bolts) so took me an extra 2 hours to get it out.

Picked up my new Drmini steering rack.

Started dissasembling right side hub.

Last night I finished putting the new rear brake cylinders in the Cooper S and bled the brakes. Now it's all ready for a "test drive" tomorrow...

Replaced the old Lucas coil with a Bosch unit. No more stalling coming back to idle and so much smoother at speed.
