the Scientific Publications #64 workshop manual has what I reckon is the best explanation of how to synchronise twins properly

I have a carbalancer, but the most useful bit of it is the rubber tube - poke it into your intakes and listen

this one is my favourite, but it's usually cheaper than this - http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/1959-1971-sp ... 35bc77eee3

this is meant to be excellent, but I don't have a copy - http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/MINI-FACTORY ... 1e70cdba45

both of them cover Australian specific stuff, so they're a must-have

I agree ^^
That SP #64 manual was also sold as a Gregory's #64.
I reckon it's the best manual for Oz roundies. Wiring diagrams are correct, and it has correct details on Oz windup doors, unlike most others.

just finished tuning my carbs

ok so standing at the front of the car facing the engine the right hand carb was about 3/4 to a full turn behind the left carb on idle adjustment, about 3 full turns of mixture nut behind left carb (ie had to be 3 times richer, and idle higher)

question is, is that normal??

car is driving 10 times better, idle is lower (it was revving that high at idle that it was getting hard to get into gear) , take off and power through the rev range is ridiculous compared to what it was (no more surging lol), feels like a new car lol

cheers for all your help guys

The difference in the jet height nut position may be explained by wear in one jet or on one needle.
If they are fixed needles (most HS2s are) the jet need to be centred so it don't rub on the needle when the piston is down.

If the carbs have done a lot of work, fitting new jets & needles to both is a good idea.

but when i raised the piston thing they both fell freely

Yes, they must fall freely to hit the bridge, and not stick.
