Last night I took the clutch slave out and gave it a good clean out. There were some deposits on the bore that came off with a wire brush and the cup looked fine so I re-assembled it and re-bled the system. It bled up fine without sucking air back in. Win.

I adjusted the return stop so that the clutch disengages with one pump of the pedal so I think I now have a functioning clutch. Win.

I took the Facet pump out and pulled it down. It looked perfect so I re-assembled it and put the filter after the pump instead of before. Disconnected the fuel line at the carby and ran the pump. She was a gusher so pump isn't the problem. Win.

Put a new dizzy cap and rotor in. It is a MG Metro A+ electronic dizzy.

Found the tacho wire dangling in the engine bay so I put that on the coil

It was 11:30pm when I finished so I didn't take it for a test-run and wake the wife, kids and neighbours.

If it still has a miss then it must be plugs, ignition wiring or the condensor. I have changed everything else out. Leads, cap, rotor, ignitor, coil, a kit through the carby, check fuel pump, new manifold gasket, rocker clearances right.

I'll find out tonight. Wish me luck.

M

Green Single wire clips... I hate the bloody things... Its horrible to fit.

I can see why there are no longer used...

Took the Moke for a test drive with tool kit and extinguisher for company.

The clutch is working brilliantly.
Thanks to Matt Read for: lightened flywheel, balancing the fly and setting up the clutch, the rod change shifter alloy seal thing with the o-ring on the inside, the oversize primary thrust washer and also the engine mount rubbers (those orange ones). All these add up to a clutch that is light and doesn't slip, an engine that stays where it is, a car that accelerates smoothly and a gearbox that doesn't leak. Ripper.
Thanks to Covertible Mini for the alternator (which I got indirectly) it rocks. I now have bright headlights at idle. Woot, it's a first for my Moke.

I got about 200m down the road and the missfire was obvious so I pulled up and pulled off the wire to the condensor. Off we go and she is purring!

I got a bit carried away and went a bit far on my test drive. About 6 km from home I could smell fuel. Stopped under a street light and looked around. Saw that the fuel float pivot pin/screw in the float chamber of the HIF had come loose and was nearly out. Fuel pouring out and onto the subframe about 50mm from the exhaust!

I couldn't get it properly threaded and just lightly got it in but cross threaded. Tried to limp home but the needle valve must have been shut as she died at a set of lights about 4 km from home. Luckily there was nobody around and I could roll backwards into a driveway of some shops. The area was well it so I took the carby off the manifold, removed the float base and re-assembled the float and pin. The PITA was that the big o-ring style seal had grown about 10mm too large in diameter and simply wouldn't go back in its seat. Is that ethanol in the fuel or just the usual crap parts that are around these days? I managed to sort of get it to work and drive home.

The moke is safely home and I didn't have to use the extinguisher. Phew.

Moral of this story is to check and double check all fasteners.

So it looks like I'll have a car that can drive to the Muster. Finally.

M

Gear stick snapped, found a dodgy weld at the base of it. Rang local & convenient mini repair shop (no names) and asked if I could buy a second hand gear stick (got the usual oh they are rare to find now and you will have to order a new one).
Rang Brian at link, sent wife, 90mins (85mins her round trip driving) later gear stick installed. Cost? Nothing, but you can be damn sure another two slabs of VB will be stuck in the engine bay next time it goes up and will need fixing/removal.

Pissed of those braided fuel lines.... and got normal black as per factory pipes. And surprise surprise they don't leak.

12 months fly by when you're having fun - rego papers arrived the other day so off for a pink slip this arvo

the Mini Matic failed on needing two tyres (and have already them replaced now) and an oil leak that needs attention (I knew that was coming!) but is booked in for a fix up next week

can't believe I've had this Mini back on the road a year already

Prepping old set of S calipers for painting - spent a good couple of hours scraping dirt and grime off one caliper this arvo. Weapons of choice were flat-bladed paint scraper, pointed scratch awl, green scourer pad, wire brush, toothbrush, a nail and a pop rivet.

Messy, repetitive, but tremendously satisfying.

Pulled everything off the front of my motor. Bought another engine and teams from eBay. Advertised as a 1000 but by my research it's a 1100 so if that's right then I have my start block for our clubby.
Stripped and painted the headlight bowls and cleaned up all the little bolt ons for engine mounts and painted them too. Once the weather clears up I'm going to pull the engine and trans and front sub frame.

Got accused by my wife of having miniitis, an unwilling ability to buy anything and everything mini that takes my attention..omg she's right..

Took it for a drive to my brothers 10th birthday slot car racing party. Was great to see the shopowners collection of slot car minis and the look on the kids faces when we drove out of the carpark. I guess most of them had no idea about "real" minis :)
