Picked up my eBay special motor today.
No wonder it was so cheap, it's sleazed and has spun a con rod bearing, the mains are just about cactus as well.
It's getting a good soak in my parts washer at the moment and hopefully I can unsieze it and have it ready for the machine shop this week, if they can save it then I'm gonna modify it nicely.
Was about to start on the engine in my clubby when my son came home and wanted help putting new flares on his jeep. Day over motivation gone beer 30 it is. Have to work tomorrow so the arvo might hold better for more on the clubby

After many months of being in bits we now have a short engine sitting on the bench.

I put a bottle of radiator flush through the engine then re-filled it with coolant. It now has the heater installed which was the last thing to go on and is running beautifully.

Just needs tyres and a wheel alignment.

How many km do I give it before I retention the head an reset the rocker gaps?

Once it's been run to hot, leave overnight then retighten head and do the rockers. Check again in 1000 miles or so.
You can retighten when hot but I find the nuts tend to stick, even if threads were lubed with oil or moly. Hard to get torque correct when hot.

File every connection and cleaned the earth and it fired into life.

I am amazed it just stopped starting due to corrosion.

Got the engine in finally, oil and coolant in, new fuel. Cranking without plugs built up to a nice 60psi first time.

Old battery is dead, need a new one, think i'll get an AGM one.

cheers

Removed the problematic 1100S and reinstalled my old A+1275 after a degrease and pressure wash.
Seems like the weekend for engine work and installs.

Pulled the 168 main jets out of the Dellorto 45 and fitted 165s.
My SOTP dyno says better, so I might try 160s tomorrow.

*SOTP = seat of the pantz...

[edit] Tuesday- yep, going even harder with 160s in. :P

Dismantled both subframes
Dismantled rear trailing arms and brake setups
Cleaned and dregreased most under car components, ready to blast tomorrow and then paint!

Couldn't work out a way to get the hub nut off the front's though.. Only ever done it on a car.
Ideas anyone?

Adam, I have DrMini hub service tool #1.. you can borrow if you want or bring the hubs & shafts over here is quicker.

Maybe I needn't have ordered some 165 mains with that selection of idle jets then...

It pays to have a range of Dellorto main jets, they are pretty cheap (compared to SU needles).
for my playing about I have accumulated 2x 145-150-155-160-165-170-175-180-190.
And 170 180 and 185 air correctors. Bought in from www.dellorto.co.uk

I don't much like drilling jets out as then you dunno what they are.

Noooo I have no Weber jets at all, but they are only $5.45 ea from Melbourne.

Note I'm running the 160s for daily use, if I put it on a dyno for a shootout I would go up a few sizes.

Is it a big bit of flat bar that goes over the wheel studs and you hook it into a vice?

Because this was my planned approach.
Thanks for the offer Kev, might take you up on it in coming weeks, we'll see
