Belts are funny things...
In the US Honda Civic belts last 100K miles.... in Oz they wear out in 100K kilometres.... Old style Volvo belts are lifed at 100K .. but my last one was still alive at around 450K (Volvos have non-interference engines

.
I've run belts in my Minis for the 25 odd years... initially Pirelli now Gates. I generally change them whenever there's some reason to pull the engine. I have never had a belt come out that looked anything but pristine...
These days they're not quite as cheap as they used to be so this time I have left the current MM belt alone.. We'll see

Fiat 124AC & 125A belts (also were Pirelli) are lifed at 80,000 miles, they go BANG (lose teeth) @ 100,000 miles. As I found out. It took out 7 valves and 7 valve guides... the pistons were all fine.
[edit] Nobody knows how long a Dayco/Pirelli Mini timing belt lasts, the belt makers don't tell you, and being made in Italy, these Triger belt drive kits were not a production fitted part (unless Innos ever got them, which I dunno) so BMC/BL/Rover can't tell you either.
As I said before, I changed one at 40,000 miles and it looked perfect. I have another Dayco that's done 25,000 and looks the same.
