I have removed my 1098 engine, which is now sitting on the floor as a complete power unit. Oils been removed and coolant has been emptied.

Do I need to do anything special to preserve it?? (it is a newly built unit that has done less than 3,000 miles.)

I'd leave oil in it to protect the gears, a spray of oil in each bore & all holes blocked up. Wouldn't hurt to turn the crank from time to time. Have successfully stored this way many times.

Ash.

I would leave fresh CLEAN oil in it. Any cheap stuff will do fine.
Dirty oil is acidic and will etch the needle roller bearings etc if stored long enough.
As I found out once when I bought a 10 year stored engine with dirty oil in. I had to change every bearing in the box.

yep^^^ what he said^^^ for sure,,, dirty acidic old oil will eat the teeth on the gears & the bearings & & & & &

flush it all out & fill with fresh clean new oil & I`d even try to get some STP on the bores

Make sure the block is completely drained of water/coolant.

Thanks

I'll do everything mentioned above. (Maybe not the diesel)

rick - the 1098 will stay with the car, so IF I decided to sell it, the new owner can choose between running the Twinky or the original 1098.
