There is nothing wrong with the wheel cylinders.
In about 1974 Leyland changed the stud pattern and backing plates when they introduced 15/16" wheel cylinders to replace the 1" wheel cylinders.
To stop people replacing a 1" cylinder with a 15/16" cylinder Leyland changed the stud pattern slightly. This was a safety measure.
People are too quick to always blame the replacement part.

If fitting the latter 15/16" cylinders to a 1" car all you have to do is slightly elongate the hole in the backing plate. Using a round file it will take about 1 minute to do.
This slight modification has been around for over 30 years so it is not new !
