G'Day,

So i drove the mini home at lunch and when i went to return to work the engine wouldn't turn over.

Noticed that when the key was in the accessories wipers, washers and gauges all worked as expected however when the key was turned to the on position none of them worked.

I assume based on this observation that its an issue with the ignition switch itself?
Is this a common issue and can anyone point me in the right direction where to look.

Thanks
Ryan.

I would certaily start with the ignition switch.

Take a multimeter and test the switched fuse in the fuse box. It will be Off with the key in Off. 12 volts in ACC, and 12 volts in Start. If it turns off at start then you will need to look at repairing your ignition switch.

It was the wiring loom on the ignition, I pressed the individual wires in a bit harder and all is now good.

Good stuff. The terminals on the back of the switch you mean?

This is a problem that you will probably see again in that case. At least you know where it is.

It was on the plug that the ignition switch wires go into, i just pressed them in a bit and its been good.

Had a look in the spares i got with the mini and there is a new ignition switch among them so I would say its been playing up for a bit. I'll swap them out when i get a chance.
