and... here's a comparison vid I just made :-)

Short-shifting on the last one as the car is yet to be tuned so I'm not revving the buttocks off it :P

As mentioned in previous posts, the last vid is not a direct comparison as the head work / cam make a big difference to the sound and performance. How good does it sound though!! hehehehe

Listen to this video and then see if you can guess SU or Weber...

Sounded like a two stage Rolls Royce centrifugal supercharger with twin 3" SUs to me.

I wouldn't call it twins, it was a single SU with two chambers.

Would you call a single Weber "twins"?

Most of the comparisons are between a 45mm sidedraft and the S/U's
But how does a 40mm sidedraft compare to the S/U options?
My mini came with a 40 dellorto (not fitted) and I am wondering how it will perform, or if I would be better with a 45?

A 40 Weber or Dellorto is fine on a near stock 1275 but if you are modding it for big numbers (or it's a 1360 or bigger) I'd go the 45DCOE instead. Or a Dellorto DHLA45.

IMO sidedraft Webers & Dellortos are easier to tune, IF you have an A/F ratio meter.
With an SU you are never sure that the needle you are using (out of the 700? available) is the optimum one.

[Waits for GR the SU man to jump on here and demolish my arguments..] :P

Noting that GR "beat" the great Keith Calver (Weber) using SUs 8)

Was a while ago...
But GR's Nb racer runs a 45 Weber, as do most in the class, not SUs.

my comparison was 2 x 1 1/4 SU's vs a 40 DCOE Weber :P

I've got a sidedraught Weber 45 on my 1310 Cooper S and HIF 44 SU on my 1360 van. Weber looks and sounds much better (better than many V8s even with Brownriggs and original Lukey style box), is more responsive and reasonably easy to tune and doesn't need any choke when starting from cold. The SU is up to the job but seems a bit more fussy than the Weber. My brother once had a downdraught Weber on his Mini, but that was not as good as an SU.
