Soo my mini doesn't want to give up smoking.... even with a new engine.

Would like your opinion on what might be causing this, as I believe it's oil and not over fueling. Suggestion being the head

1275 from a clubby. Running on xld classic oil and probably poor quality fuel

This "great running engine" was just bolted in from one car straight into mine. I didn't see it run before hand so unfortunately I cannot compare. Not that that matters, I just need to fix it.

** Don't mind the boofheads in the background =D **

Valve guides & seals maybe?
When it sits, turned off for a while , does it blow smoke initially on startup ?

definitely valve stem seals, especially on the inlet. You can change them on the car without removing the head. Just need the right spring compressor tool and air line fitting into the spark plug hole.

If you dont have a compressor and spark plug adaptor you can also put some thin rope in the spark plug hole then turn the engine over by hand to lock up the cylinder

If you are handy with a spanner, and have a torque wrench, taking the head off on a mini is a walk in the park compared to most cars anyway. Some say they can do a headgasket change in an hour - but you may need the head machined (another $80 or so - skim it a little more to increase the CR ;))

If you didn't see it run in the original car its pretty hard to tell...

I had an engine that had great compression but stuffed scraper rings.. I would check the guides and valve seals but be prepared for this not to be the problem
..

Cheers, ian

New std guides are less than $50 a set.
Valve stem seals come free with the gasket but they are cheap crap. They go hard then no worky.

Good valve seals that last (Viton ones) cost more, but don't go hard. You really only need these on the inlets. Over $7 ea to buy here.
I got some from USA a while back, were less than $5 ea including postage.

Goodie I would say it doesn't really blow any more smoke when I start it, but it is plenty slow to turn over (proper cr compared to the old 1100 me thinks) and requires almost full choke until warm

Pretty disappointed to confirm something s worn Tbh. Lot of time and money where I could've done my old motor... which I'm realizing now had alot more power than I first thought lol
