I've come to the realisation that the speedo in my 76 clubmand is wrong by a good 10-15kph. It reads about 75ish when I'm really only doing 60.
Has anyone else got this problem and is there a way to fix it without having to get any new parts? ie; is it just a recalibaration job?

Mines the same in a 74 model ive tried 2 speedos now both the same we just use a garmin or tom tom gps now

Mine under-reads all the time, what ever speed I'm doing it reads zero! Like drjbeam I rely on Tom Tom

Still better than mine. All mine does is 360's round and round the faster I go the faster its 360's.
Then if I go in reverse it does 360's in reverse.

I need to do something about it. When I can be bothered.

This is a pretty dodgy method but worked for me.

You need to pull it apart enought that you can have the needle not resting against the stop post and note where it tends to sit. Then turn the needle backward, more than 360 deg may me needed, until it's new rest spot is equivilant to about 10kph. Might take a bit of trial and error and mine was a large early speedo so I'm just assuming will work in same way.

The smiths speedos if calibrated correctly are actually quite accurate.

A better way would be to give it to an instrument repairer.

Funny that people will service a car every 5000km but they expect a speedo work for 50 years without a service.

i had enough of replacing speedo's so i bought a digital 1 with a speed sensor that fits the mini gbox, its a bit of a pain too setup with 10" wheels but works a treat i got it from digital speedo's in the UK

Is there anyone in the Sydney area that recalibrates / repairs Smiths speedos and gauges? I know Howards in Vic are highly recommended, just wondering if anyone has used someone more local?
