Now the remote is in the car we can see that the problem is accumulation of tolerances in one direction, so that with the remote's mount sitting in the tunnel bracket, the engine steady is about 4mm too long.
With the steady off, the floor clears fine.
So, ! am halfway through converting the steady to be adjustable...

The tunnel bracket needs its mounting lugs moved forward, for the same reason; it won't go forward far enough with the aftermarket remote mount. Tomorrow's job....
