When driving my MK11 Cooper S home before I started the strip down I noticed a clunk noise when on off the accelerator,as I am pulling the car down I thought that Somebody might be able to give me a heads up as to what the problem might be.I grabbed the top of the engine but can't rock it back & forward even though the stabiliser rubbers look worn.
cheers.

It could be the rubber mount where the remote change housing bolts to the body underneath? Mine had a similar clunk before I changed it..

It is easier to test the engine movement by putting it into gear, handbrake off and rocking the car back and forth.

Check the big CV nut on each hub, if loose that gives a good clunk.
Usually it means the drive flange and/or CV's spline is worn.
