Same one spins my 11.0:1 1360 just fine, Lucas starter and all. 8)

Century batteries are pretty good. I got 8 yrs out of a marine one in my boat once (20 years ago). Most others used to die in it @ around 4-5 years.

What is regarded as a good battery life, as I just put the biggest one I could fit in the hole and I have had it for 11 years, although it is starting to get a bit weak now. I'd say i'll be replacing it soon.

You are willing to spend $450 on a battery for a vehicle you use once a month? Please tell me you're not serious...

Let me know if you end up getting the Braille Dave, I'd be interested to see how it goes

Hey chux. Ive had it for while and no dramas firing up the mini. The only thing l do is put it on a trickle charger to top up the battery for a hour or two, when the car is stationary for a considerable amount of time. New battery vs old from memory was a 12kg difference.

Agreed, unless it's for a race car :)

I have a tiny solar panel I picked up from Jaycar a little while back. I hook that up to my battery and keep it on the back parcel tray. It provides 20 mA (0.020 Amp) when the sun is on it, but will charge off the garage lights too (to a lesser extent). Its not a clever charger, but once it is up to voltage then 20 mA is dissipated by the battery quite simply as heat you will not detect.

I could never buy a battery that costs more than I paid for my Cooper S.

Just in case anyone needed to know:

If you take a 10+ year old unknown brand unknown CCA battery, completely short it for maybe 10-15 seconds (just enough so nothing catches fire), recharge it, use it for maybe a month to test and trouble shoot a rewired car, drain it testing new headlight relays, charge it again, let it sit a few weeks, charge it again, it will JUST have enough to turn a motor enough to get oil pressure. Just. Start it? pfft
