I pulled the diff out. The diff gears were moving a bit on the pin. They diff gears were moving side to side and axially. I have not seen a new one so I have no reference. Apart from that there was nothing mentionable........ I might take he diff in to a mini joint and have em look at it.

I found this spring on the ground just after I pulled the diff....

Might be relevant ? Or just some rubbish I had laying around on the floor?

If it's a rodchange box that's the main gearshift detent spring. It lived under the RH diff side cover. There was a steel ball behind it too...

When new they have around .004"? clearance.
When worn, the sky is the limit.

If the diff pin wears bad, it looks like this, just before it breaks and punches a hole in yer diff or gearbox housing-

Oh wow mine is no where near that bad. Most if the movement is on the thrust sides. Should I change out the axle gears too ? They look ok.

Just on a side note, if this is actually the problem I would get a noise both in forward and reverse right ?

No the axle gears will be fine.
If the pin is worn the spider gears are too- so replace both.

You won't get noise from worn spider gears, unless the gears have broken into pieces which can happen.
