I use the same box setup as the Porsche guy but use swivel turntables and a Dunlop camber/castor gauge setup as it also gives a KPI check. It is important to make sure you are doing it on a level floor, so packing under the tyres/ turntables may be necessary. Also use a corner weight system too, which is the first step prior to doing the wheel align.

Flat road and a brake pedal. Whichever wheel locks first is the lightest.
It doesn't get any cheaper than that.

Keith Calver has a pretty good system he uses - you just need a mini clutch slave cylinder, a pressure gauge, and some scrap metal to knock one up. Detailed here http://www.calverst.com/articles/SUS-Suspension-Corner_weights_and_bump_steer_basics.htm

That sounds like an excellent idea :D would be easier to rig up for sure.
