Hi everyone,
Fairly new to the hands on stage so this may seem common knowledge, but what's a sure fire way to clean a block before having work done on it. After a degreaser shower, it's still pretty sad.

Once it's all clean and ready for some work, I'll be shipping it interstate (may seem like overkill but when I asked a local engine block place about getting some work done, his words were, "give me a call before you drop it over so I can run the other way. ) Shipping from central qld to Sydney so is there any tricks I should know before shipping an engine (minus gear box).

Cheers for any advice,

Use a few metres of builders plastic and duct tape. Engine reconditioning places usually hot tank parts before working on them so I wouldn't get too excited about making it spotless.

I've used e-go couriers for shipping car bits. If you can drop it off to their depot it's cheaper

Stay away from Engine builders that have such comments about Mini engines. He obviously does not like doing them. Could be a bad move taking it to this person besides waste of money.

Definitely not GR, just the local engine block specialist. I'm actually shipping intestate to GR

He asked his local engine shop in rockhampton and they said let us know so we aren't around. So he is organising to send it intestate to a mini specialist...

As for prep work, you could scrape all the gaskets off and remove the 2 studs and the 2 dowels on the bottom of the block so they don't get lost.

Would acid dipping or glass bead blasting be appropriate to clean this up?
I'm looking to do the same to my engine when i can actually get this fly wheel pulled off..... anyone got any recommendations of places to send my engine to in Brisbane to get machined?
