Another quick question. I tested the volts with the alternator electrics connected whitch gave me 10 volts, obviously feeding back form the battery. I tested again with the plug to the back of ten alternator removed, car running, and got 0 volts. Just to confirm if the car is running, alternator turning, but not pluged into the system should I still get a volt reading from the alternator plugs? Or does the regulator need to have the plug attached to take readings and produce the the charge?

If the field wire is in place, and you have removed the charge wire, then you should see at least 14 volts at the terminal with the engine running. A photograph of your alternator would help.

Don't be connecting or disconnecting anything with the engine running BTW, if its not too late.

Thanks. I have cleaned up all the wiring and ensured there is nothing shorting etc. I will test it out tonight.
I havent been connecting and disconnecting the alternator etc. while running. Thanks for the reminder though.
