It is a bit strange, I wonder what date the test was. (I wonder what the object of the test was)
When did the inner guards get the plugged hole crumple zone?
Unipart had started around that time, it might be a filter box from Parts and Accessories.

from what I have been told and what I've seen plugged holes in the inner Guard started in 73 which would make it a very Late GT so yes it would have the 1206 engines ( with closed tappet chest) so the crankcase ventilation system would be correct ( I know there is quite a lot of debate on this and really don't want to start it all over again :(
I have knowledge of several late GT's with 1206 engines, including mine, that have the thermostat end engine steady fitted which would appear to have been fitted from the factory. :wink:

Hey Rod, Did they still have the remote box or the rod-change when they fitted the extra steady?

The rod change started in 73 with the Austin Allegro in England and Australia just followed suit (oil leaks and all)

They still had remote gearboxes with close ratio cluster

To cover a few questions from above:

Here is the link to where I posted the photos on the crash test. These photos came from the Australian factory. I'll try to find out more on the history of the test.

According to its engineering drawing the steady bar (part AYG2296) was released into production on 12/10/72. The Cars First Used On field shows YDO18 and YDO30 (Mokes) and YDO21, 22 & 23 (the latter is Clubman GT).

The four-way breather is included in the Australian Mini parts microfiche for the 1275 engine.

Here is a 1973 GT with the 1206 engine.

Looking at the compliance plates ADR 10b, 12, 16, 18, 21, 24 were introduced Jan 1973 so maybe the crash testing in that photo was done for those ADR's in late 1972 with a 1206 engine.

The PUB23 Mini parts microfiche shows the inclusion of a left hand side engine steady arrangement at YG2S8 car #1474, which is around January 1973 according to the register.

The steady bar I mentioned earlier (AYG2296) has a bend in it but I think it is used as a replacement for the clutch-end straight steady bar, not at the water pump end like we're talking here. Tomorrow I'll try to check the parts mentioned on the fiche.

I suppose the holes in the guards (for 73 GT's) were crash tested for effectiveness and these are the photos from it.

Although I don't know why they didn't use a cheaper model....

It is a 73 GT from the breather set-up and steady as Rodmac has said

So when you say 1206 is that the size of the engine ie not the standard 1275?

1206 is the engine prefix for a Late Clubman GT 1275.
They also had 9FXEY, 1200, 1205 prefix's.
