I am putting my 6" speakers under my rear seat in Leila. but there are two ways that i am thinking about doing it.

1st way is to put them in a box under the seat, so that i can put them in the corner, which will mean that i can still have space to store shite under the seat

2nd is to just put them on a flat board and block up under the whole seat (the way that most people seem to do it.

My biggest concern either way is that people may kick the speakers whenthey get in out/ when they sit down, and also that with just a big flat board they look a bit uggher.

just after some feedback frompeople that have done either way, on the practicality of both ways

I cant carry passengers in the rear so i aint got any dramas. Just make sure people are aware that they are there b4 they get in....

just buy some speakers that have the mesh cover on them... i use responce 80watt RMS 6x9's theyre good bang for the buck at about $130 a pair

I had mine like Hanra's, sounds ok. That was until I stripped all the audio stuff in favour of power to weight ratio

Chong, with all that plastic that speakers are made from and the tiny magnets used, it wouldn't have made any difference, besides, would it gain you that much? Being your all about power to weight, why don't you run it down the qtr mile, i'd be interested to see it go up against enki's automatic

i have the same setup and it sounds awfull, i made a box so that whole space is one big box, the bass is good because it viabrates through the car but it is no where as crisp as other systems, i think its mainly to do with the seat in the way and deadens the sound,

mind you it does sound good with the front seats out,

i forgot to mention as well... its a bit muffled if you put it under the rear seats... and its alot muffled if someones sitting in them..... i moved mine to the parcel shelf.. and have never looked back... definatly better there soundwise...

If there's holes there in the first place I agree. Best would be to create a box per speaker and angle them up by sliding a piece of MDF up between the box and the speaker. Just cut it so its 1/2 a circle then screw in that way you'll have the sound aiming closer to your ears. Also better sound and way less muffling then if you used the space under your seat, as the box.

Bass reverb and distortion will happen a lot more if you used that bigger space as the speaker works best with a smaller volume/capacity. For a 6" speaker I'd be wanted no more 12L and if memory serves me correctly the space under a seat of Mini is far more then that even if you account for both speakers, with a total max volume of 24L which is massive and is the recommended size for a 12" sub.

What ever you do though don't buy plastic boxes, make them yourself from MDF or some other similar wood you'll get a deeper bass and clearer mid and high frequency sound, or I can for you. Either way give me a buzz if you need a hand. Good luck with it mate.

if your not looking at cutting holes in the parcel shelf.. (which is more than understandable) then perhaps get some speakers that sit on the rear shelf in its own pod.. i also did that before forking for the 6x9's

Chris, I had one in JAM, and it was nice, but yes rear seat passengers do knock them a lot.

As soon as JAM became a daily driver, it was THE most stupid thing to have. That space under the rear seat is PRIME REAL ESTATE in a daily hack, and I ALWAYS have something stashed under there in my current hack.

In JAM I fitted speakers in the bottom of the side storage bins, mounted in MDF boards cut to the internal shape of the storage bin. Bloody ripper!!!

At the end of the day, it all depends whether your DOOF DOOF is more important than rear passenger leg room and / or storage (junk) space.

So if i mount them on the rear parcel shelf (which i am leaning towards, as i do use under the seat alot) will it have any effect on sounds, as they will not be boxed as such when they are sitting in the self open in the boot?

Most modern speaker sets sold for car fitment are designed for baffle mounting, ie into the rear parcel shelf or doors.
Not little boxes.
I did build a pair of 4" ones for the boat, I mounted them in Jaycar plastic boxes 1/2 filled with speaker wadding.. They sound OK, but not much bass (didn't want that when fishing...)

the boot acts as one HUGE speaker box, and your sound will be quite good IMHO, but I am no ICE expert

yer boot helps heaps to get max sound

under the back seat gets a fair bit muffeld
