How do you get the distributor drive back in the block and engaged with the cam?

With #1 at TDC the skirt of #3 is in the way so how do you line it up with the crank rotated enough to get a clear line of sight - and then how do you do it?

Getting frustrated here :x

I'm doing both - but don't seem to be able to get the thing to lock in and engage the cam - which way does the turn in relation to the crank - do they both turn anti-clockwise?

Got it in - went right in and the outer retainer slipped right in fully. Before I removed the bolt I thought I'd give it a turn to see if it rotated

The (*&$%^ # 3 piston hits the drive shaft and won't go any further :evil:

Guess I'll be giving Mr GR a call in the morning

With those pistons you have to machine the body of the dizzy driveshaft down to 8mm or so. :wink:
Aaron found the same prob today.
Pic of modded shaft in Vizard's book.
Easy job.

Hmmm he's talking stroked engines to clear the crank - this is the skirt of the piston hitting it will it still help?

Yes it's the same problem. Skirt of RE piston is maybe longer than a normal 1100 one, it's also .100" bigger diameter..

Yes, it is an easy job but I wouldn't want to try it with an old Myford and a piece of high speed steel! Those shafts are HARD!

You may find it hard to believe but I did just that, in my Myford. 8)
But I'm used to this, I reface Mini valves the same way.
